Chapter 5

The creatures surrounded the small band of humans. All looked hopeless. Thankfully for them, looks can be deceiving. There was a loud sound that seemed to come from everywhere at once. The sound is hard to describe, though it can be done best by saying that it sounded like the largest door in the world opening. Both the army of monsters and the small posse of humans looked around to see where it came from. They all saw it at once. The sight that lay before there eyes was unlike anything any of the humans had seen before, however, the monsters had seen it many times, and it seemed to trigger something in them. The antennae on the black ant things began wiggling even more wildly. The flying creatures beat their wings and flew faster. No longer did the monsters seem to care about the humans though. Their focus was on the new sight. Something had appeared in the sky.
“Well I’ll be…” Johan said. “THAT IS TOTALLY WICKED!”
“What in the world?” Mommy said. All of them had their heads cocked back and were looking at the new sight. It appeared to be exactly what the sound they heard had been like. It was almost as if the largest door in the entire world had been opened up in the sky. Inside the door, a plasma like substance seemed to swirl. The substance changed various colors.
“Just like a video game.” Rangorax said under his breath. The substance that swirled inside that massive door seemed to go on infinitely. The only other thing inside the giant “room” in the sky was a massive column. If a player of a video game or a sci-fi fan would have looked at it, he could have told you what it was. That’s exactly what happened.
“It looks like some sort of energy core” The three boys all said at once.
“What makes you say that?” Kerjov asked.
“Just trust us.” Rangorax said.
“What is it an energy core for?” Mommy asked. Nobody answered. The monsters were intently focused on getting to that core. Not only the monsters that had surrounded the people, but the monsters from all over the city. There were literally millions of the things flying or crawling towards the core. The ones that crawled began to levitate when they neared the door.
“What are they doing?” Mommy wondered out loud.
“Whatever it is, it can’t be good.” Sevyon said. He was righter than he possibly could have imagined. No one had time to do anything though. The monsters reached the massive core. They began slashing and beating it savagely. The earth trembled.
“Could that energy core be what I think it is?” Sevyon wondered. Above their heads an amazing sight perspired. The most beautiful meteor shower ever witnessed was happening. The chunks of space rock flew through the sky at amazing speeds with brilliant colors. If it weren’t for the situation, Rangorax might have said something romantic to Kerjov, but he felt it would be a little out of place. The earth began to quake more. Time seemed to slow down to Sevyon. The sky got dark. It became so dark that the meteor shower could no longer be viewed. He looked the other people around him. There were small pools of a dark substance forming at each of their feet.
“What the heck!?” He yelled. He couldn’t hear his voice over the earthquake. A black mist began to rise from the pools and envelop each of the parties standing in them. Sevyon turned around to look at Mommy and Johan. They were already gone. He turned to look at Kerjov and as he did she vanished. He turned to his best friend. He too was being sucked up by the black mist. Sevyon tried to run towards his long time companion. His feet wouldn’t move! He looked down and suddenly realized that one of the pools had formed around him as well. The mist was rising all around him. He stretched out his arm towards Rangorax.
“Grab me!” He yelled though his voice was inaudible. Rangorax seemed ot get the message anyway though. Rangorax too reached out his hand to Sevyon. They both missed each other on the first try. They were standing too far away. They stretched harder. The whole time the mist was gathering around both of them. Sevyon could feel it. It was an odd feeling. As he breathed the black substance in, it seemed to grab a hold of him and was almost as if it was pulling him. A very strange feeling indeed. The two successfully grasped each others hands. They tried to pull themselves close to each other, but they didn’t succeed. The pull of the darkness was too hard. With a sudden pull, the boys hands were separated and darkness covered Sevyon’s vision. He yelled out to no avail. Everything went black. His time on earth was up.
